In a representative government, the Representative is the voice of those who elected him or her to represent them. Their personal opinion only matters when there is not a clear majorative mandate from the people. Only then is the Representative's personal opinions entrusted to reflect those of his or her constituency. Anything less is to wrest power from the people to whom our system intended to empower...the people!
